Meet Abby Woodcock: Clix Marketing Efficiencies Manager

Today’s post is part of a series where we’ll be profiling each member of our leadership team here at Clix.
We hope you enjoy getting to know us.

R.J. Palacio wrote, “Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.” So is true of Abby Woodcock. She is cherished by our team as both friend and colleague and serves at the ultimate go-to person. She and her husband are about to welcome their first baby in March – a little girl and no doubt a future Hoosier. Read on to learn about our Efficiencies Manager.

What college did you attend? What was your major?

I went to Indiana University, Bloomington and majored in Journalism. I’m from Bloomington and have always loved writing so it made sense.

What do you do when you aren’t working?

I’m at the gym a few days a week, or watching a show with my hubby or working on music. I’m the worship leader at our church so I spend time each week choosing songs for Sunday, coordinating our team schedule, etc. Right now I’m working on an album and I’m super eager to finish it. I love the creative process and putting something out into the world that you made.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I usually start by checking email. I prepare a task list the day before, but inevitably something will pop up that wasn’t on the list. I help out with account strategy, internal team communication and task execution so there are generally a few tasks/recommendations from other team members that need my review for implementation. Outside of that, the majority of the rest of my time is spent launching new campaigns, analyzing account performance for new opportunities or on client calls.

How did you get started in digital marketing?

I graduated in 2008 so the job market was rough because of the recession, so I waited tables and kept applying. Finally in 2010 my friend came across a job posting for an Assistant Account Executive at Hanapin Marketing that she thought I’d be good at, and the rest is history.

Describe your jobs/roles at the companies you’ve worked for.

At Hanapin I started out as an Assistant Account Executive, which was a very entry level role. I’m extremely grateful to have started there because I got 3 solid months of stellar training which has helped me tremendously in all of my subsequent positions. I ended my tenure there as an Account Executive and was leading the company’s then second-largest account. In addition to account work at Hanapin I also managed the blog writing schedule and helped out with training new employees. At both of the companies I worked for in Nashville, I had my own client accounts and mainly focused on strategy and helping train the client services department so they could understand and communicate about PPC more effectively with our clients.

What makes Clix different? And what brought you to Clix?

Clix does a fantastic job of balancing flexibility with high job performance expectations. Our leadership trusts their employees but also expects the best from us. For me, this is the type of environment I thrive in and so appreciate. I came to Clix because I had worked with some of their team members in the past, I was moving back to Indiana and they had a full time position open so I jumped at the opportunity.

Favorite piece of advice you have received?

My husband has told me many times over the years to relax. Simple advice, but crucial for someone like me to remember since I have a tendency to get anxious or stressed which doesn’t help any situation ever.

What is your favorite thing about this industry?

I love the mix of analysis and creativity. I’m a very analytical person so I love wading through data to troubleshoot issues or look for opportunities, but I also love jumping in and being able to learn a new platform or feature, etc.

What’s something you’ve recently implemented, or are planning to implement, in an account that you’re excited about?

I recently launched a Gmail campaign for a client; at first we were having issues gaining traffic but after a few iterations we’re finally seeing some results, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs!

How would your closest friends describe you in one word?

I once had a friend tell me I am like sunshine. I have my bad days and cynical moments, but I also love being there for others or saying something to make someone laugh or brighten their day.

How did you spend the Holidays?

For Christmas Eve we were with my family and Christmas Day we were with Joel’s family. Usually Joel’s parents host Christmas Day, but they’re building a house right now so we had the pleasure of hosting the family at our house. It was a great time. Joel and I also took the week after the holidays to go to Canada to visit his family and friends which was really fun (and I went to IKEA for the first time!)

What are some traits / characteristics that an amazing PPC Account Manager possesses?

A keen attention to detail is crucial. It can be easy to make mistakes in accounts, and mistakes will happen, but will happen less often for those who are very detail oriented. The ability to think outside the box is also extremely important; we have some industry best practices but best practices don’t always work best depending on account goals.

That’s a wrap! We hope you enjoyed getting to know Abby a little better. She’s an integral part of our the Clix team and one who we rely on.
