This post is a part of a series that profiles our leadership team here at Clix. We hope you enjoy getting to know us!
It’s our pleasure to continue introducing you to Anu Adegbola, our new Director of Client Strategy and the latest addition to the Clix team! We wanted to give her the opportunity to share a bit of her background and things that excite her, so check out the Q&A below!
Q: How did you get started in the digital marketing field?
Anu: After doing a year as a marketing intern at a small theatre company in London, I somehow got into SEO because it was an entry level role and I have always been good with computers. I realised just about three months later that it wasn’t really my thing as it was all about link building and calling website Admins to put a link of my client’s site on their website. So I started interviewing again for advertising roles, and I was called in for a Paid Search role. When they came to the question – do you like Excel? My eyes lit up and I was sold. I loved that in paid search your ad showed on page one almost immediately (as long as the bid was high enough) and the data showed that paid ads did generate clicks to the site.
Q: What is your favorite thing about our industry?
Anu: The community – it really just takes deciding to be a part of it. People are so generous with their time and resources (even if it’s for free). I have managed to build a community that feels like my colleagues even though I haven’t directly worked with them. We laugh together, we talk about our frustrations over the ever changing nature of our industry and we are supportive with the ventures we are going through – they are some of my best cheerleaders.
Q: Do you have a moment in your career that you’re most proud of?
Anu: Pulling up a whole marketing strategy for the last Digital Agency I worked with. Early on in my career I have felt that Paid Search isn’t a silo so being able to put a whole marketing strategy for a brand was a source of great pride for me. From what I hear – it is still being used.
Q: What’s your number one way to spend your free time outside of work?
Anu: Honestly – mostly watching TV (especially during the pandemic). I am really into superhero movies (Marvel being my favourite). I have also gotten more value for intentional time with family & loved ones, listening to comedy podcasts whilst going for long walks in my area and doing some gardening/taking care of my indoor plants.
Q: Are there any causes you’re particularly interested in?
Anu: Any plight that affects children and generally our younger generation always hits home with me. I regularly support two girls in Rwanda through the charity organisation Compassion.
Q: If you could go back and give a piece of advice to your just starting out self, what would you say?
Anu: First – start the network earlier and be consistent with it (and it doesn’t just have to be in-person networking). Second – do not compare yourself with other people (even those managers you will have who are younger than you). You have a special gift (especially your joy) that is a great asset. Do not be shy about bringing that energy into every room you occupy.
We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Anu a bit better! Don’t forget to follow her on Twitter and LinkedIn, and keep an eye out for her upcoming posts here on the blog – or let us know any questions you’d like to have her answer in her first few posts!
